Hydrants and the internet: The future is communication

Since 1997, on the initiative of the artist Wolfgang Wimhöfer , 20 to 100 year - old hydrants have been listed as historic monuments in the harbour of Düsseldorf.( see Expert`s report statement ) They are a reminder of the time of foundation. They are vigilant and patient firemen (Aquarius), protection and help in times of trouble and need. Their inherent symbol of the cross is certainly no coincidence. They are immediately at our disposal should there be a fire. They connect us, as a final valve, with "all-important" , "life-sustaining" water! Yet due to their cast-iron weight, they also warn us of their "dangerousness".

The fact that they are now enjoying this kind of presentation will continue to protect them from the fury and desire to tear down and abolish the "old", even into the next century.

Photos of hydrants from all parts of the word will be collected on the pages and will be placed on the internet like a "coffee-table-book". Through their favourable recognition they symbolise world-wide communication. They help in the voluntary international communication and understanding of nation, because they speak a universal language. They transmit the feeling of friendship. Your texts about hydrants will also be published on this page.

As a thank for your participation you will get the membership in the "club of aquarius".

Please send your photos of hydrants as *.jpg or *.gif files, not larger than 100 KB and your texts as *.txt , *.doc or *.pdf files with copy and paste to the contact address left. Please include the place and time the photo was taken and whether or not your name can be mentioned.
